BILLY AND BUDDY

 BOULE ET BILL

FRANCE, BELGIUM, LUXEMBOURG • COMEDY, CHILDREN’S FILM • 90 MINS • 2013 • G
DIRECTORS: ALEXANDRE CHARLOT, FRANCK MAGNIER
CAST: MARINA FOÏS, FRANCK DUBOSC, CHARLES CROMBEZ, NICOLAS VAUDE, LIONEL ABELANSKI

Billy is a red-coated cocker spaniel waiting for a new master at the pound. Buddy is a young red-headed boy looking for a pet. When they meet it’s the beginning of a wonderful friendship and a hilarious adventure. It’s also the beginning of a lot of trouble for Billy’s parents!

This feel-good family film is an adaptation of Jean Roba's popular comic-book series, directed by Alexandre Charlot and Franck Magnier (writers of the immensely popular comedy Welcome to the Sticks). Franck Dubosc, a famous French humourist, plays Billy’s perpetually put upon father, trying his best to deal with a naughty boy and an even naughtier dog while moving his family from a small country town to a Paris suburb for his work.

Set in 1973, and full of fantastic period costumes, production design and music, this shaggy dog story about a family and its wisecracking chien (via a hilarious voice-over) provides plenty of laughs for kids, while also delivering jokes and a winning story for grown-ups too.
