When you have a dream riverside apartment in Paris, a fantastic lover and a perfect job, just what else do you need? For Aleksandra, the answer is “the ultimate accessory” – a child. However, when she adopts Alekseï, a seven-year-old boy from Russia, she soon learns that life as a mother is much harder than being a successful, high-powered businessperson.
Valérie Lemercier writes, directs and stars in this laugh-out-loud comedy that’s as funny as it is politically incorrect. The popular French actress has won two César Awards for her supporting roles in The Visitors (1993) and Avenue Montaigne (2007), and can also be seen in Nicholas On Holiday in this year’s Festival.
The Ultimate Accessory is a biting satire on hip Parisiennes, with the fashionable couple treating their new child like their latest piece of designer furniture. But is there some decency under all that attitude? Lemercier’s last comedy of manners, Palais Royal!, was a huge box office hit in France, and her latest film is sure to earn big laughs in Australia.
