The elegance of the mise en scene is woven into the sentiments it highlights. The illuminating presence of India Hair, Camille Cottin and Sara Forestier is a major asset to this delicate film.

- BANDE À PART

Emmanuel Mouret, award-winning director of Love Affair(s) (AF FFF21), returns to contemporary stories of love, loss, and entanglement with effortless aestheticism. Turning pain into beauty and the ordinary into tragedy, THREE FRIENDS is a study of the lies we tell ourselves and each other.

Joan (India Hair, Annie's Fire, AF FFF23) is married to Victor, Alice (Camille Cottin, Call My Agent) to Eric, and Rebecca (Sara Forestier, Oh Mercy!, AF FFF20) is having an affair with the mysterious Mr. X. Their realities couldn't be more different: Joan isn’t in love with Victor anymore, what Alice has with Eric is nice enough but she’s only pretending, and Rebecca’s Mr. X happens to be Alice's husband Eric. Then Victor goes missing, and the three friends find their charades beginning to unravel. How much longer can the truth stay hidden?

Tempted by desire and haunted by the fear of alienation, Mouret’s sometimes funny, oftentimes poignant film shows that betrayal is not a leap from a ledge, but a series of small steps along a secretly travelled path. Three friends, three lies, three truths – this is a compelling film you don't want to miss!
