A radiant feature debut from French-Malian director Daouda Coulibaly, this pulse-pounding thriller’s hectic roller coaster pace will have the audience clinging to their seats. Sick of his dead-end job as a bus driver, the ruthlessly ambitious 20-year-old Ladji (newcomer Ibrahim Koma) dreams of something more than his impoverished life.

After being denied a well-deserved promotion, he decides to apply his knowledge of the transportation industry to drug trafficking. On his very first job, Ladji’s quick wits impress those highest in the ranks, and in a breathtaking whirlwind of events, he moves up in the business. But with responsibility comes ever higher risks which encase Ladji in a spiral of overwhelming events involving treacherous deals, corrupt officials and even the Al-Qaeda.

An internationally celebrated crowd-pleaser, Wùlu has been likened to a West-African take on Scarface, but goes even further as it delivers an intelligent cautionary tale connecting the sharp rise and fall story of its desperate protagonist to the political events that led to Mali’s coup d’état in 2012.
